The Summer of Music Exclusives

Ariana Parker's POV

Chapter 7

Ariana's POV:

Walking towards the open field, I shake my hair out of my eyes before glancing back to find my Mom gathering the boys for bed.

Quickly turning away, I crank my music before she can call out to me for help.

I just wanna get away and clear my head for a little while.
Navigating through the tall grass and pit holes, I manage to find even ground. Walking the rest of the way with ease, I come across a tree and sit.

Shrugging out of my mini backpack, I pull out the Ziploc bag where I stashed my smokes and place one between my lips. Lighting up, I close my eyes as the bitter taste chases away my nerves. Closing my eyes, I let the smoke settle into my lungs as the evening’s breeze and sounds surround me.

Flicking the ashes, I exhale as my gaze lingers towards the train tracks. There’s been way too many nights where I’ve thought about walking out here to purposely end my life. I suck back another drag.

But then Max wins.

I sigh, running my hand through my short hair.

For the time being, I’m safe.

I won’t let him defeat me…

Rolling the smoke around in my fingertips, I take another long inhale, blowing the smoke out slowly as it swirls around me.

Closing my eyes, my thoughts wander through the past few days and then settle on the day I met Richard.

He’s cute, like really cute with those pouty lips, high cheekbones and sad blue eyes. But on the other hand, when he first approached me it almost felt like he had something to prove - once we broke the ice, I quickly saw through his rough exterior and bad boy act and felt the sense that he too carries a great weight on his shoulders.

It’s kids like us - the broken fucked up ones who truly understand each other without having to say a word.

Then again, maybe he sensed that we both have something to hide and that’s what drew him close. Either way, he’s a good looking guy who’s smirk is probably going to be the death of me.

Andre's POV

Chapter 1

Peering at the crowd around me I rake my hand through my hair with a heavy sigh as I bounce back and forth on the spot. Tonight’s supposed to be my last fight, I muse glancing towards Bic and tonight’s goon.

“Ten minutes until the start, Rainer.” Bic barks, as I glance towards the clock, twisting the cracks out of my neck and then my back as a means of distraction before entering the ring.

Glancing across the room I watch Bic and the goon engage in conversation and I can't help but wonder if I should be taking Bic at his word? Is he really going to let me walk away from all this, or does he have other plans in store for me? I wonder as he glances down at his watch. Either way, I know have to go out there.

“Ready, Rainer?” Bic asks raising his left brow.

Ready to put this life behind me, I whisper under my breath as my stage name “VIPER” is called.

While Bic takes the lead, I follow him, and the goon follows me, probably making sure I can’t run, I note keeping an eye on him over my shoulder, but there's no chance I’ll run.

Growing closer to the ring I know now more than ever I want out of this life, even if it kills me.

Slowing my pace while I take in the crowd, the goon bumps me from behind, and it might just yet.

Refocusing my attention on the cheers coming from the crowd, Bic approaches the ref and they begin to discuss the rounds instructions.

Never did I dream I'd ever become an illegal fighter when I started wrestling in high school, and yet that's exactly where my choices in life lead me.

Anne - Marie's POV

Chapter 4

With shaky hands, I take a deep breath and wheel myself down the hall. Entering our bedroom, I can practically feel Caleb’s presence in the room before I see him.

“What’s he doing here?” Caleb snaps, from the window.

“I’m taking her home,” Tony quips, crossing his arms over his chest as he leans against the door frame.

“Is that so Anne Marie?” He interrogates, without turning towards us.

“I already told you I was leaving Caleb,” I mumble as Tony's phone drums in his pocket.

Digging it from his pocket, he diverts his eyes long enough to read the message, “My buddy’s here for the boxes,” he offers, with a curl to his lip.

“Okay,” I nod, “I’m taking all these,” I reply bravely pointing towards a handful of boxes that sit in the corner, “as well as these bags over here,” I add, instructing him towards the bed.

“Alright,” he nods with a smirk as he moves to collect them.

“You’re really doing this huh?” Caleb speaks up once Tony's hands are full. “After being together how long Anne Marie?” He presses, crossing his arms.

“Fifteen Caleb,” I shake my head. “It’s been fifteen fucking years,” I snap.

“Right, and now you’re just going to walk away,” he moves in on me.

“I’m not just walking away Caleb,” I supply, as tears silently stream down my face. “You chose this, not me,” I demand.

“You’re the one leaving,” he counters.

“And you’re the one who cheated,” I blurted, unable to hold back my anger.

“Ugh,” he groans, throwing his arms up with frustration, “Just stay and we’ll figure it out.”

“There’s nothing to figure out Caleb,” I mutter under my breath.

       “So, you’re just ending things?”

       “Yes,” I press.

“Now who’s the homewrecker?” He accuses.

“The last time I checked, you,” Tony says, in passing.

“Whatever,” Caleb says, shrugging him off.

“Are you going to be okay with him for a moment?” Tony asks, coming to my side.

“Yeah," I nod, continuing to keep up my brave face.

“Alright,” he nods knowingly, before exiting.

Once Tony's exited the apartment, I figure now's the time to fully end things with Caleb.

Exiting our bedroom, I head into the living room as Caleb follows close behind. Approaching my desk, I unlock the drawer to retrieve the envelope I've been hiding, you can do this, I coach myself, as I slowly close the drawer.

Nervously turning towards Caleb, I hear Tony just outside the door talking with someone, I better just get this over with, I tell myself moving closer towards the door.

"What's that?" Caleb asks, slamming the apartment door in front of me.

"I need you to sign them before I leave," I supply, extending the envelope.

Snatching it from my hand, he rips it open and pulls out the legal documents, barely scanning them before tossing them back in my lap. "I won't sign Anne - Marie," he huffs, "I won’t fucking sign."

       “Please, Caleb.”

"I’m not signing Anne Marie, there's still time to fix this," he supplies.

“You can’t fix this with words Caleb.”

“Then I’ll give you whatever you want, whenever you want it, as long as you stay.”

“That’s why I can’t stay Caleb,” I reply, looking towards the door. “Because you’d say and do anything to keep me here with you,” I cry. “I deserve to have someone who truly loves me just as much as I love them,” I confess. “I deserve someone who will always make me happy,” I point out. “Not when it just suits him,” I let slip as Tony walks back in.

“If that’s how you feel?” He raises his fist to me.

“That’s what I want,” I continue, as his fist meets the wall beside me.

“Then fucking leave bitch,” he barks, shaking out his hand before he snatches up the divorce papers.

Stomping around the couch, he fetches a pen and begins flipping through the papers, scratching his name at the bottom of each one. “If this is truly what you want then fine,” he says, tossing the pen onto the table before narrowing his eyes at Tony. “I won’t come bail you out this time Anne - Marie,” he adds, gripping the papers tightly. “So, if you leave here with him, that’s it,” he warns.

“She’s not going to change her mind,” Tony speaks up, from the doorway.

“Suit yourself, bitch,” he growls, crumpling the papers into a ball.

“Real mature,” Tony points out shaking his head.

"Whatever," Caleb scoffs, tossing the balled - up divorce papers into my lap.

"Really Caleb," Tony jumps in between us.

“Let’s just go,” I whisper, tugging on Tony's arm.

“I’m so done with you,” Caleb supplies, turning away, and even though he’s hurt me in the worst way, it's the first time I've heard 'true' regret in his tone.

“Come on Annie,” Tony advises, “You don’t need this asshole in your life,” he adds, coming around my chair.

Unable to find any words, I nod as Tony grips the handles on my chair and begins to walk us away.

With every step we take, my chest begins to tighten as we exit the apartment. “I don’t think I can do this,” I blurt, grabbing hold of my wheels.

“I’m not leaving you here Annie,” my brother breathes. “Not when he’s acting like that.” He grumbles, coming around to my side. “I promised I’d protect you,” he looks me dead in the eyes, “and I may have fucked up the first time...” he supplies, his eyes turning emotional, "but I won’t fuck up again Annie."

“But what if I’m ruining a good thing?” I panic.

“A man who cheats Annie isn’t good for you,” he advises, anxiously dragging his hand through his hair. “You of all people deserve so much more than any guy could give you,” he continues, making a fist, no doubt conjuring up vivid memories from our childhood. “You’ve been through so much on top of our family drama,” he drops his hand to his side, “You shouldn’t have to put up with someone like Caleb on top of it all.”

Hearing how broken up my brother is over this I know, he's right, “Okay,” I reply, loosening the grip on my wheels, “I’m ready,” I nod.

“Are you sure?” Tony asks, narrowing his eyes.

"I'm sure," I say out loud, even though every, last bit of me is breaking on the inside.
